Theravada means the teaching of the Elders. It is the oldest and most authentic form of Buddhism as it is practised in Sri Lanka, Burma, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand and parts of Vietnam.
We refer to the teachings of the Palicanon, the Tipitaka, consisting of Suttapitaka, Vinayapitaka and Abhidammapitaka. Der Suttapitaka contains the sermons of the Buddha, Vinayapitaka contains the rules for monks and nuns and Abhidhammapitaka is a collection of philosophical and psychological instructions.
The most basic practice for Buddhists (Theravada) is the Three Refuges: we take or refuge to the Buddha, the Dhamma) and the Sangha.:
buddham saranam gacchami
dhammam saranam gacchami
sangham saranam gacchami
combined with the practice of pancasila
In meditation we practise Metta and Vipassana.
Our spiritual teacher is Ven Bhante Seelawansa Maha Thero.
