![]() The tradition of CHAN Buddhism developed in 6th century China incorporating a number of mystic as well as practical elements of Chinese universalism. When it spread to Vietnam, Korea and Japan it developed its specific forms found today. Japanese Zen Buddhism formed and enriched Japanese culture for centuries.
The teachings of ZEN have been handed down from generation to generation by masters and teachers and finally reached America and Europe in the course of the last century. In 1979, the Austrian Zen teacher Genro Osho founded the Bodhidharma Zendo in Vienna thus providing a centre and a sangha to each and every individual who intends to start on her/his path to enlightenment as a zen practitioner.
In our zen-training we give our full attention and energy to the practice of zazen, kinhin, gassho and sutra recitation.
In our daily lives we endeavour to be guided by sila (discipline, right conduct) and sati (mindfulness), eventually to realize and manifest non-self.
Talks and discussions among 'noble friends' in the group of practioners supporting each other on the common path are held regularly at 'tea time' every Thursday after 9 p.m..
Members of 'Zen-Gruppe Salzburg' (founded in 1992) also take part in zazenkais and sesshins at BUDDHISTISCHEN ZENTRUM SCHEIBBS, and are in contact with 'Haus der Stille PUREGG' on Mount Hochkönig, with Jodo Shinshu temple SHIN DO in Bad Reichenhall with SHOBOJI ZENTEMPEL in Dinkelscherben, the BODHIDHARMA ZENDO Augsburg, Bavaria and HAUS TAO at Lake Constance, Switzerland and other ZEN-centres. |
